The Challenge
As the Responsible Designer, Tractebel supports the operator in implementing the decommissioning program for the Doel and Tihange Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) while maintaining cost-effectively the highest levels of safety and availability for the Belgian fleet. Tractebel has been the Responsible Designer of the Belgian nuclear reactor fleet since its construction 60 years ago.
The Solution
During construction, an upstream cofferdam consisting of sheet-pile walls provides hydraulic safety and protection against flooding.

The decommissioning of the Doel and Tihange NPPs will be conducted with the utmost care to ensure safety, environmental protection and cost-effectiveness. Tractebel provided innovative solutions to make sure the project is delivered on time and on budget.
